Leather Provenance
Materials are the foundation of timeless design. True luxury is not manufactured — it is crafted to endure.
Each VENEZIA bag is hand-crafted from a leather of rare provenance: Taurillon, sourced from the family-owned French house widely regarded as the finest tannery in the world. Since 1927, this tannery has devoted itself to a single pursuit — mastering the art of Taurillon, the hide of the young bull, prized for a rare marriage of softness and strength found in no other leather.
Taurillon is drawn from the Taurus lineage, a lineage so exceptional it yields the most coveted — and most costly — leather among all bovine hides. Where calfskin offers delicacy, Taurillon offers resilience without compromise: more robust, more enduring, and finer to the touch than the calfskin favored by other maisons. It is, in its category, the softest, the rarest, and the most luxurious leather in the world.
Each hide is taken from cattle raised for approximately twelve months, sourced exclusively from Europe — primarily Catalonia and Switzerland — regions chosen for the full traceability they guarantee, animal to atelier. Naturally generous and full of character, the hide is transformed through patient craftsmanship into something supple, silken, and unmistakably rare.
Hardware
JEWEL-LIKE LUMINOSITY
At Marie Massimo, hardware belongs to the language of couture — not an accessory, but a jewel-like expression of the design.
The Foundation
Each creation carries hardware forged in jewelry-grade 316L stainless steel, often referred to as “marine grade” for its exceptional durability and corrosion resistance. Designed to withstand sweat, salt water, and everyday wear without tarnishing or rusting, it is also hypoallergenic and ideal for sensitive skin.
The Finish
Every surface is polished to an extreme and finished to a mirror. The result is a depth and brilliance that gathers light the way a fine gemstone does, opening a quiet dialogue between metal, leather and form.
The Gold
For select creations, the steel is veiled in 24-karat gold PVD. The surface glows, rich and radiant, while the enduring 316L core beneath remains unchanged.
The Detail
Every curve, every edge, every reflective plane is considered as part of the bag’s architecture, transforming the functional into the exquisite. The result is hardware of true jewelry presence: luminous, tactile and imbued with a sense of permanence.

Craftsmanship
Origin of Intreccio
Meticulously woven by hand in the Maison’s signature INTRECCIO, it features delicately refined edge lacing, a hallmark of artisanal mastery handed down through several generations of Marie Massimo artisans in Florentine style.
The world’s oldest bag is in Intreccio and it is the designer’s inspiration.
Marie Massimo was fascinated seeing the world’s oldest bag, 5300 years old belonging to iceman Ötzi found in Italy, in a melting glacier of Tyrolean Alps. Ötzi is the oldest naturally preserved human mummy ever discovered. Attached to his belt he had a small leather pouch. The edges of the belt and the bag were laced with flat sturdy leather cord for enhanced looks and durability. And this is when the maison’s signature Intreccio technique was born, later enhanced with the help of Florentine artisans
FROM ITALY TO ANCIENT ARMENIA or VICE VERSA
Long before couture had a name, Armenia was already weaving leather into art. The world’s oldest known leather shoe, 5500 years old, discovered in Areni-1 Cave, bears a lacing technique that whispers of intreccio — the same interlacing artistry still revered in fine leather goods today. And in a twist of fate, Ötzi, the 5,300-year-old iceman, carries genetic ties to that very region — a silent thread linking ancient craft to ancient blood.
Handcrafted
Every Marie Massimo creation is entirely handcrafted — the work of a single artisan, in an atelier, never a factory. There is a reason the machine-made will never rival the handmade. What comes from a machine is identical, replicated without soul. What comes from human hands is imperfect by nature — and it is precisely that imperfection that gives it life. A single artisan’s touch leaves behind something no factory ever could: character. Presence. A quiet signature of humanity in every stitch.
Consider the Ferrari — a marque that famously takes months, not days, to build a single car, because true craftsmanship refuses to be rushed. The bags of this collection are made in that same spirit: each one shaped entirely by hand, over as many as two weeks, by one artisan alone, from first cut to final stitch.
Not manufactured. Made.
Leather Care
Over exposure to water should be avoided. Should the product get wet, please remove any residual water with a dry cloth and allow it to dry naturally.
Should the leather get scratched or worn you can apply leather cream (natural or colored depending on the color of your bag). Then polish them with a dry cotton cloth to enhance its natural shine and remove any traces before use. Please try first on a small surface on the base of the bag or somewhere not visible to make sure the leather cream you use is the right color and has the right finish. It is not advisable to
use leather creams on matte leathers as leather creams often create a slightly shiny effect.
For light colors please avoid contact with clothing with strong dyes such as dark jeans as they may stain the leather when rubbed against the fabric. We recommend professional cleaning services when required. Use a soft dry cloth to remove any loose dirt. Please keep away from heat and damp and store in the MARIE MASSIMO dust bag in an upright position with paper stuffing, ensuring all straps and chains are placed inside the bag to avoid marking the leather.
Hardware care
To protect the surface of your bag’s hardware from scratches, please avoid allowing it to contact with rings or jewelry, especially those set with sharp-edged stones such as diamonds.
To maintain the pristine condition of the hardware we recommend using a dry, soft microfiber cloth, applying gentle circular motions during cleaning.
Please exercise caution, exposure to chemical substances like alcohol, hand sanitizer, acetone, hand lotions or sunscreen may compromise the original finish – resulting in discoloration and lacquer removal. If this occurs, promptly and gently clean the surface with a damp microfiber cloth and allow it to air dry. Furthermore, it is essential to avoid contact with rough or abrasive surfaces, as this may lead to scratches and irreversible damage to the hardware.
